Course Content
What the Course Covers
Carrying a baton without certification is illegal. This course is what makes it lawful.
01
Legal Authority & Liability
When a baton may lawfully be used, when it may not, and what happens to you if you get it wrong. Force escalation and de-escalation.
02
Baton Types & Carry
Straight, side-handle, and expandable batons. Carrying, drawing, and retention — including how not to lose it in a struggle.
03
Blocking & Defensive Use
Defensive blocks and control techniques. The baton as a protective tool first, a striking tool last.
04
Target Areas
Approved strike zones — and the areas that turn a lawful strike into a criminal charge. Deadly-force zones to avoid.
05
Post-Incident Duties
Reporting, medical aid, evidence, and the written record that protects you and your employer afterwards.
06
Practical Assessment
Hands-on demonstration of technique. You must pass to receive your certificate and permit.
